Sustainable Plant Systems

The online learning material Sustainable Plant Systems aims at building knowledge through inquiry-based learning. Four major subject areas with a total of 12 topics that are covered by SPSW researchers have been chosen for this learning material:

1 Biotic interactions

  • Induced systemic resistance and priming (Mauch-Mani Group, UniNe)
  • Inducible root defenses (Turlings Group, UniNe)
  • Plant innate immunity (Boller Group, UniBas)

2 Nutrient management

  • Nitrogen supply in conservation agriculture (Frossard Group, ETHZ)
  • Arbuscular mycorrhizas in soil nutrient management (Gamper Group, ETHZ / van der Heijden Group, ART)
  • Phosphorus recycling (Oberson Group, ETHZ)

3 Plant breeding

  • Abiotic stresses during corn development (Walter Group, ETHZ)
  • Wheat resistance against fungal pathogens (Keller Group, UZH)
  • Iron biofortification of rice (Bhullar Group, ETHZ)
  • Orphan crops of Africa: Tef improvement (Tadele Group, UniBe)

4 Climate change

  • Temperature adaption and acclimation (Shimizu Group, UZH)
  • Role of vascular plants in methane emissions from soil (G. Singh Bhullar, ETHZ)
