SPSW E-Learning

E-learning offers interactive, multimedia teaching and learning material anywhere and anytime. The Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center (PSC) will develop two e-learning courses for the Swiss Plant Science Web (SPSW), Sustainable Plant Systems and Biodiversity Informatics, which will be integrated in the MSc and PhD curricula of the eight SPSW institutions. We are currently working on the concepts for content development and curriculum integration. All SPSW researchers are welcome to participate and contribute ideas. Please feel free to contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions...

The course Sustainable Plant Systems will discuss important research topics in plant sciences in the context of sustainability, e.g.:

  • Conservation agriculture
  • Benefits and risks of genetically modified crop plants
  • Inducible root defenses
  • Drought adaptation of plants

The course Biodiversity Informatics will cover the application of biodiversity databases in three disciplines where biodiversity data are of central importance: Systematics, conservation and ecology.

In each of the three lessons the course offers an introduction to basic concepts of biodiversity data and databases in its first unit. From data acquisition to dissemination, the remaining three units represent the three-step cycle of (1) discovery and integration, (2) analysis and visualization, and (3) sharing and collaboration of biodiversity research data in the three respective fields.

Stefan Ungricht is responsible for the development and implementation of this course.
